Build an item sales peer-to-peer fundraiser

Cheddar Up’s ITEM SALES peer-to-peer fundraiser has all the important features of peer-to-peer fundraising (e.g., personalized fundraising pages, donor feed, leaderboard, fundraising goals, etc.) with a focus on creating an online store that each participant can use to promote and track their own individual sales (and/or donations). Learn more about building an item sales peer-to-peer fundraiser in this article.

Steps to create an ITEM SALES peer-to-peer fundraiser

Follow the steps below to create an Item Sales Peer-to-Peer Fundraiser (see example):

Tip! Throughout taking the steps below, you can click "Preview” at any time to view your progress and see how your main fundraising page is taking shape.

  1. From the Collections Dashboard, click “Create a Collection > Peer-to-Peer Fundraiser”.

  2. From the following modal, click the “Create from Scratch” button under “Item Sales”.

  3. Complete the fields on the Fundraiser Details step:
The selections on this step control what will appear on your fundraiser’s main fundraising page. Your main fundraising page is the home base of your fundraiser. Donors who arrive on this page will have the option to either make a general donation or to assign their donation to a participant (by selecting from a list of all participants). All donations (made across all participants) are visible on your main fundraising page. Your main fundraising page is great to share when your group or organization is promoting your fundraiser in mainstream or community-wide communications. See example.
    • Add a banner image or video to your fundraiser, in addition to a title, and description.
    • If applicable, add a fundraiser location (address).
    • Select a date and time setting (choose between an open-ended ongoing event or set specific start and end dates and times).
    • Set an optional fundraising goal for your entire fundraiser (with the option to show the total amount raised publicly).
    • Choose whether to show a supporter feed (if enabled, donors can decide whether to show their name or remain anonymous).
    • Choose whether to show a leaderboard that reveals the top fundraising teams or participants.
    • Choose whether to customize the donation call-to-action button on your main fundraising page (e.g., Shop Now, Support Us, etc.).
    • Choose whether to include an FAQ section on your main fundraising page.
  4. Complete fields on the Peer-to-Peer Options step:
The selections on this step control how participants can register to participate as well as what shows on participant fundraising pages. Participant fundraising pages are similar to your main fundraising page but they are specific to each participant. Each participant has their own custom page with a unique URL that they can share with their networks. They can customize their page and use it to track and manage their personal donations and total amount raised. Only donations made to a specific participant are shown on a participant fundraising page. See example.
    • Choose whether to include a public registration link on the main fundraising page. (You should only turn on this setting if you are open to having anyone be a participant - great for a public 5K run, etc. If you are doing a fundraiser limited to students within your school, for example, you would not want to turn this on.).
    • Add an optional message to your participant invitation email. This email will be sent to all participants that you invite (or who register on their own).
    • Adjust what’s shown on participant fundraising pages, including the ability to:
      • Allow participants to change their display name
      • Show only participants’ first name and last initial for additional privacy
      • Allow participants to upload their own video or image
      • Allow participants to include a short note to potential supporters
      • Show a leaderboard (ranked either by Teams or Participants)
    • Choose whether to show a fundraising goal on participant pages, with options to: a) let participants set their own goal, or b) set the same goal on all participants.
  5. Complete fields on the Items step:
This step allows you to add fixed-price items or donation items -  very similar to how you add items on normal Cheddar Up collections.
    • Select the type of item(s) you wish to add - choose from a Fixed Price Item or Donation item - and configure each item as you wish (with options to add item names, prices, images, descriptions, variations, quantity limits, questions, etc.).
    • Save items and configure your list of items as you see fit (with the option to add categories, reorder items, control how items are displayed (either in list or gallery format), etc.) and then advance to the next step.
  6.  Complete fields on the Purchasing Options step with options to customize donor checkout and/or add managers.
This step allows you to add fixed-price items or donation items -  very similar to how you add items on normal Cheddar Up collections.
    • Decide whether to allow general sales (This allows a supporter to contribute without picking a participant - a great option for supporters who want to contribute but don’t know a specific participant.).
    • Consider asking custom questions of supporters (e.g., What’s your address? Would you like to volunteer?, etc.).
    • Consider customizing your supporter receipts with a custom message.
  7. Complete the Settings step with options to customize supporter checkout, add shipping and discounts, and/or add managers.

  8. Advance to the Publish step and click “Publish”.

Congrats - you’ve created and published your main fundraising page (and set the groundwork for your participant fundraising pages). The final step is to add participants. See step-by-step instructions on adding participants.
