As mentioned in our Fees article, by default, payers pay transactional convenience fees. This article explains how to change that and instead have the organizer absorb fees (as well as how to give payers the option to absorb fees at their discretion during checkout).
Have the organizer absorb fees
If you wish to NOT have fees be passed on to the payer, the organizer can choose to absorb them. To do this, follow these steps:
- Within Build > Settings, select "Payments".
- Toggle on "Cover all or some fees for your payers".
- From here you can decide whether you want to cover all fees (credit card and echeck fees, or just echeck fees). Note: If you choose to absorb only echeck fees, make sure you've turned on the echeck payment method.
Once you make your selection to absorb fees, the payer checkout will adjust fees accordingly.
Give payers the option to cover fees
If you don't want to force payers to pay fees, but you would like to give payers the option to pay fees, follow these steps:
- Within Build > Settings, select "Payments".
- Toggle on "Cover all or some fees for your payers".
- Toggle on "Give payers the option to cover fees".
Now, at checkout, your payers will NOT be charged fees unless they check the "cover fees" checkbox. The "cover fees" checkbox is a subtle checkbox shown near the fees section. Upon hovering over the tool tip next to this checkbox, payers will see that they can optionally choose to cover the small fee amount for the organizer. Upon checking the box, fees will be added to the payer total as appropriate. If the payer does not check the "cover fees" checkbox, fees will be paid by the organizer.
